CWM invites global communion to celebrate CWM Sunday 2026

The Council for World Mission (CWM) invites its global family of member churches and partners to celebrate CWM Sunday 2026 on 19 July under the theme “Revisioning Mission.”

Observed each year on the Sunday closest to 18 July, CWM Sunday commemorates the restructuring of the Council for World Mission in 1977 and offers churches an opportunity to celebrate God’s mission through worship, reflection, and a renewed commitment to justice, partnership, and transformation.

CWM encourages member churches and individuals around the world to participate in the live-streamed worship service hosted by St Mungo’s United Church in South Africa.

The service will begin at 9:30 a.m. (South Africa Time) on Sunday, 19 July, and will be livestreamed on the church’s YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@stmungosunitedchurch9939.

This year’s preacher will be Rev. Prof. Teddy Chalwe Sakupapa of the Uniting Presbyterian Church in Southern Africa (UPCSA). An ecumenical theologian and missiologist, Sakupapa was recently appointed director of the World Council of Churches Commission on World Mission and Evangelism.

With more than 15 years of experience in ecumenical leadership, theological education, programme governance, and academic publishing, Sakupapa is widely recognised for his contributions to contemporary missiology and ecumenical theology.

CWM warmly congratulates Sakupapa on his appointment and welcomes his participation as the guest preacher for this year’s CWM Sunday celebration.

As the global communion journeys towards Jubilee 2027–2028, CWM Sunday 2026 offers churches an opportunity to give thanks for God’s faithfulness over the past 49 years and to renew their shared commitment to participate in God’s mission of building life-flourishing communities throughout the world.
