CWM welcomes first-ever youth coordinator to strengthen global mission

The Council for World Mission (CWM) will welcome its first youth coordinator, Karabo Mamabolo, on 1 July, marking a significant milestone in the organisation’s commitment to global youth mission.

Karabo will be based in the CWM office in Johannesburg, South Africa.

“Karabo will be the first full-time youth coordinator in the history of CWM. With this historic appointment, we fully anticipate that CWM’s youth mission movement will advance to another level, and we look forward to the intensive development of young leadership and greater initiative in mission,” said Rev. Dr Jooseop Keum, general secretary of CWM.

After participating in the CWM Training in Mission programme in 2018, Karabo cultivated a strong commitment to serving youth in the ecumenical circle.

She brings over five years of experience with the South African Council of Churches, where she served in the Portfolio of Gender Justice and Youth Advancement. During this time, she played a key role in advancing youth participation by organising and implementing programmes aimed at fostering the personal, educational, and social development of young leaders for sustainable growth.

Karabo has also demonstrated leadership within established church structures, having coordinated the Youth Desk of the Uniting Presbyterian Church in Southern Africa (UPCSA).

Complementing her deep ecclesiastical experience, Karabo has also worked as a graphic designer in the corporate sector. For almost three years, Karabo engaged closely with diverse African cultures and languages while also demonstrating the role of a Christian witness in the marketplace.

Karabo, currently a self-funded student at the Theological Education by Extension College pursuing a diploma in theology, identifies witnessing the contributions of young people in advancing ecumenism—particularly at the intersection of faith, justice, and gender—as a key motivation in her work.
