30 July is United Nations World Day against Trafficking in Persons, established to raise awareness of the plight of human trafficking victims, and promote and protect their rights. This year’s theme of “use and abuse of technology” focuses on how technology as a tool can both enable and impede human trafficking, as it can be leveraged to develop sustainable technology-based solutions to combat human trafficking.
This International Observance date falls in a season where some churches in the Caribbean and North American region celebrate the ending of the enslavements of persons and the coming of Independence. Some countries have laws and national task forces which address the issue. In some instances, churches, international church bodies, and voluntary organisations are working towards the eradication of this scourge.
Caribbean And North America Council for Mission (CANACOM) has gathered some resources to raise awareness and deepen work in challenging human trafficking.
