by CWM Communications Team

The Council for World Mission is pleased to Congratulate Rev. Dr Peter Cruchley, Mission Secretary for Mission Development, on his appointment as the Director of the World Council of Churches (WCC) Commission on World Mission and Evangelism (CWME). Rev. Cruchley has been working with the CWM for over six years and has contributed  to the mission work of our member churches. As a son of the LMS missionary parents, his particular contribution to the CWM’s Legacies of Slavery Project, now known as the Onesimus Project (TOP), shows his deep commitment to  justice and liberation.

On the last day of the recent CWM’s Annual Members’ Meeting (AMM) in London on 15 June 2022, the Board of Directors and the representatives of the member churches to AMM blessed him as he takes up this important leadership in world mission.  The General Secretary of the CWM, Rev. Dr Jooseop Keum, announced the news to the members and congratulated Rev. Cruchley on his  appointment as CWME Director as his successor in WCC. After explaining the importance of this strategic position in the WCC for fostering unity and missional partnership among Christians worldwide, the General Secretary, Rev. Keum, wished him all the success and assured him of the continued support of the CWM family. The Moderator of the CWM, Rev. Lydia Neshangwe, prayed for Rev. Cruchley and blessed him for his future ministry.

Rev. Cruchley is the  third person to go from the CWM to serve in the position of CWME Director.  Rev. Dr Jooseop Keum and Rev. Dr Christopher Duraisingh have served in this position before.

The CWM wishes Rev. Cruchley all the goodness and blessings of the Lord to continue to do the mission of God in the new role as he prepares to begin his work from 17th October 2022.
