CSI church blasted in southern Tamil Nadu

A bomb explosion has severely damaged a church belonging to the Church of South India (CSI) in the Kanyakumari district of southern Tamil Nadu .
The blast went off on the night of 28 November at Thamathukonam in the outskirts of Nagercoil town, after church choir members had dispersed following carol-singing practice.
According to the police complaint filed by the church secretary, the bomb was planted in a hole in the wall that is used to drain water after church cleaning. The interior walls of the church were also damaged by the impact.

NZ church bells toll climate change warning

Church bells will ring out in unison across New Zealand next month as part of a bold church campaign to lobby political leaders over global warming.
Religious chiefs are urging the country's churches to take part in the synchronised bell ringing at 3pm on 13 December - midway through the UN Climate Change Summit which is taking place in Copenhagen.
They want to see politicians at the summit urging bolder steps by the whole community in the country’s efforts to curb greenhouse gas emissions.
URC church rallies Cumbria flood victims

United Reformed Church congregations from Cumbria, UK, have gathered for an emotional church service following major floods that claimed lives and damaged 2,000 homes and businesses.
Five people were killed and hundreds had to be evacuated when heavy rain caused the Derwent and other rivers from the region to burst their banks in the last week
Held at a local reception centre and open to people of all faiths, the church service provided a quiet opportunity for volunteers and evacuees to reflect on the devastation caused.
Hong Kong church must address rich/poor divide

Christian leaders in Hong Kong have urged the church to renew its commitment to social justice in a bid to bridge the gap between the country's rich and poor.
Churches were called to strengthen their focus on serving the poor and safeguarding the environment during a three-day mission event organised by the Hong Kong Christian Council.
The call comes following a warning from Christian leaders that the gap between rich and poor in Hong Kong has widened in the 10 years since the handover to China, Christian Today reported.
