Christians in the UK will take to the streets of London on Saturday 14 October in protest at the unprecedented sectarian violence in Orissa, The Church Times reported.

Protesters are set to march to Downing Street to present a petition to Prime Minister Gordon Brown and the Indian High Commission calling for intervention by the Indian government to help bring the violence to an end.

Rally organisers, India Christian Concern, have put out a call to Christians worldwide asking them to continue praying for the return of law and order across India. The march will be attended by the MPs John McDonald (Hayes and Harlington) and Virendra Sharma (Ealing and Southall) and representatives of British Hindu groups.

They've also asked people to pray that the violence will highlight the plight of persecuted Christians in India to make it more difficult for militants to attack with impunity.

The rally starts at 2pm in Richmond Terrace off Victoria Embankment.
